CirClub has recently launched medical physics lecture series

    

    CirClub has launched a medical physics lecture series through our online web meeting room. Dr. Frank Dong, the staff physicist at Cleveland Clinic was invited to give a series of lectures on diagnostic medical physics. The lecture series will be scheduled once a month, on the second Sunday morning at 9:00 am, Beijing time. These courses are primarily based on the educational requirements for a diagnostic resident from American Board of Radiology (ABR). To cover all aspects of diagnostic physics, the lecture series will take approximately 2 years.


     Medical physics is a branch of physics which applies its principles to assist the treatment of patients. It covers medical electronic devices, biomedical engineering and health physics. Medical physicists' work on the application of physics principles to improve the diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes treatment. They also help improve imaging techniques, develop new medical equipments, improve radiation safety to the patient and medical staff, and also design treatment plans with radiation oncologists to assure that patients receive the proper radiation dose during the treatment.


     Diagnostic medical physics is a sub-branch of medical physics that deals with the diagnostic applications of x-rays such as CT, radiographic device, or gamma rays from sealed sources such as PET or SPECT. They also deal with non-radiation medical imaging devices such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. The American Board of Radiology requires all the diagnostic radiology residents to complete proper training and pass the radiological physics exam to show proficiency in basic knowledge of medical physics. However, medical physics is not mandatory for the residency training program in China, but currently, there is a great deal of radiation fear in the public, even among the radiologists. The course is to help our members understand  the principles of medical imaging as well as how to protect patients and healthcare workers from radiation injury, thus reducing the risk of cancer.


     Dr. Dong graduated with a BS from Fudan University, Shanghi, China. He obtained his physics master degrees from both Ohio University and University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a Cleveland Clinic staff since 2009.

 

 


 

介入放射俱乐部最近推出医疗物理系列讲座

 

    介入放射俱乐部决定开设医用物理系列讲座,由克利夫兰临床医学中心物理学董博士主讲。 讲座将通过我们的在线网络会议室,每月授课一次, 每次将安排在每月的第二个星期天早上,北京时间9:00am。这个课程主要是依据从美国放射诊断学委员会(ABR)对于射诊断学住院医师的教学大纲而设计的。 讲座将涵盖放射诊断物理学的基本内容,大约需要2年左右时间完成所有计划。

 

    医用物理学是物理学的一个分支,它将物理的基本原则来帮助患者进行治疗。医用物理范畴报括了医疗电子设备,生物医学工程和卫生物理学。医用物理学家的职责是应用物理学的原理,以提高诊断和治疗效果。他们还帮助提高成像技术,开发新的医疗设备,提高病人和医务人员的辐射防护安全措施,以及帮助放疗科医师设计放疗计划以确保病人接受最佳的辐射剂量。

 

    诊断医学物理学是医用物理学的亚学科, 主要研究CT和普通放射影响器材中的X射线, 以及PET或SPECT中的γ射线在诊断中的应用。诊断医学物理学还包括了非辐射医疗成像设备的内容,如超声和磁共振的成像处理。美国放射协会要求所有放射诊断住院医师完成必要的培训,并通过相应的考试,以具备医用物理学的基本知识和应用能力。在中国,放射诊断学住院医师培养体系还没有把医用物理学设置为一个强制性的课程。 但公众, 其中包括了从事放射线接触的医护人员对辐射有巨大的恐惧。 设置本课程的目的是帮助我们俱乐部的会员了解医学成像的原里,以及如何对自己和病人进行辐射防护,从而减少患癌症的风险。

 

    董博士毕业于上海复旦大学,并获得物理学学士学位。他还获得了俄亥俄州立大学和威斯康星大学的物理学硕士学位,以及威斯康星大学的博士学位。从2009起, 董博士任职于克利夫兰临床医学中心。
